“A house is not a home without at least 1 scented candle and a diffuser in every room.” – Safiya Shaikh, 2021
I love nothing more than lighting a candle at the end of the day to fill our apartment with relaxing scents, or turning on my diffuser first thing in the morning to help wake me up and get ready for a day of working from home. Scents have such a huge impact on my mood and energy!
With so many of us spending so much time at home since the start of the pandemic, it’s more important than ever before to turn your abode into your own little sanctuary, turning it into a space that makes you feel happy and content. Home fragrances are a fantastic way of doing this, and can be a great way of helping you to relax at home.
Here are some of the ways I love to introduce scents at home:
1. Organic Candles
Invest in some organic candles! Candles are so magnificent because of the scent they fill into a room, but it’s surprising how many non-natural candles let off odours that are harmful to breathe in. I was shook when I learned about it! To reap the full benefits of a beautiful candle, organic candles made with essential oils not only smell amazing, but have wonderful benefits when you breathe them in.
One of my all-time favourite home scent brands is Chapter Organics. Each candle is hand-poured with wonderful essential oils and the soothing scent fills the room within minutes of lighting one of the candles. They look great and smell even better.
Chapter Organics has kindly given me a 15% discount code to share with you all! Use code SAF before midnight on Monday 8th Feb.
2. Room Diffusers
A diffuser is a great way of ensuring a consistent scent runs through your home at all times. I love walking through the door and smelling my chosen scent, and diffusers last a good few months. Again, a favourite of mine is the Chapter Organics Peace Diffuser, but I’m also a huge fan of the Neom Organics Real Luxury diffuser scent. Both are organic and last a long time!
For an extra scent boost in a room, my mum taught me the trick of taking one of the reed sticks and placing it on a radiator so that the heat pushes out the scent from the diffuser! Once it’s dry, just put it back into the diffuser. She also puts a reed stick into her hoover bag if you’re feeling extra boujee!
3. Electronic Room Diffuser
This is a game changer. Electronic diffusers are having a moment right now, with the likes of The White Company and Neom Organics selling beautifully aesthetic electronic diffusers. You don’t have to break the bank though – there are now so many options available from Amazon and other online retailers which all achieve essentially the same result – oils diffusers into your interior.
The difference between this and a more traditional diffuser is that the scent is pushed out and dispersed much more powerfully than a regular diffuser, which subtly diffuses all day. With an electronic product, you can choose when you would like bursts of a scent to be diffused – great for masking smells of cooking or to fill the room at the start of the day.
I received a lovely electronic diffuser from Amazon for Christmas, which doubles up as a lamp and I love putting it on! My current favourite scent is the This Works Morning Expert Wake-Up drops with Peppermint, Lavandin & Rosemary, which help to sharpen focus and boost morning motivation! To use, you simply add a few drops of essential oils to some water and allow the diffuser to work its magic.
Small things can make a big difference during times like these, and making small investments into your home can go a long way in helping you feel more happy and content at home! Hopefully some of these suggestions help – they certainly do for me! x
