New year, new blog feature! If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen my brand new Instagram venture – Harrogate Food. I wanted to take my social media efforts back to my blog roots and passion, and really use my time and effort to promote the wonderful food and drink places in my local area.
All of these food posts have fuelled my hunger to post more of these kinds of features here on In Between the Food too, and a Restaurant of the Month feature feels like the perfect opportunity to do just that! It also seems only right to start the first feature in January, and start as we mean to go on with a food-fuelled decade.
We might only be part way through January 2020, but there’s no competition for my restaurant of the month. My tastebuds and Instagram stories are simply screaming at me to make it Chophaus, a new eatery in Oakwood, Leeds.
As a true foodie, but also a blogger and marketeer, I really appreciate a strong and consistent brand identity. I’m talking about a cohesive, distinctive and recognisable social media, website, food and interior, and Chophaus are showing us all how it’s done.
If you’re not drawn in by their dark, opulent and contrast-heavy Instagram feed, you’ll fall in love with their newly refurbished restaurant space featuring exposed wood, dark furniture and gold features, and vast glass windows and balconies overlooking Roundhay Park. And then there’s the food… Chophaus is a steakhouse specialising in fantastic meat and gorgeous wine, and as a package, it’s a fantastic eatery and addition to the Yorkshire food scene.
I’m not sure what hits you first when you get to Chophaus – the truly unique and distinctive building, the scent of flavoursome food as you approach, or the friendly faces greeting you at the door. Alas, all three leave a long-lasting impression.
Chophaus has only been open a matter of months, but I’ve still managed to fit their Sunday Roast in – twice. We Yorkshire folk treasure and appreciate a good Sunday Roast, and when it’s done well, it’s going to get recognition. I can assure you, Chophaus’ Sunday Roast ticks all of the boxes!
Two courses for £19.95? Yes please. Extra gravy without even needing to ask? Oh, go on then. Cauliflower cheese and cheesy leaks and cheesy brocolli? I suddenly can’t remember eating these vegetables without cheese and I love it.
The main event though, of course, is the meat. Particularly their cut of roast beef, perfectly cooked and coated in delicious gravy. If you appreciate a good steak, you’ll be impressed by the offerings, and you’ll certainly love their steak menu. Leave any experiences of chewy or dry meat at the door, and get ready for some juicy, tender, succulent cuts of steak, with a slight warming hint of charcoal. I can often give or take meat, but the beef at Chophaus steals the show – even over the large Yorkshire puds, and that’s saying something.
This is one of those restaurants that you’ll talk about for a good few days after visiting. You’re impressed from the get-go, and the food and wine will exceed expectations even further. It’s a fantastic daytime hangout, but also makes a perfect date night restaurant or venue for large groups. The interior boasts a range of seating and tables, with a large round table perfect for 5 or 6 people, to more intimate settings. The furniture is very much in-keeping with Chophaus’ high-end, luxurious and still contemporary look, and they even have outdoor seating areas ready and raring to go for our sunnier climes.
Dining out is a treat, no matter how often you do it, and this steakhouse won’t leave you disappointed. Please do your senses a favour, and check it out!
