Post-Flight Skincare Advice

Post-Flight Skincare Advice

Summer is  f i n a l l y  here and I know many of you will be jetting off to explore some new places in the sunshine!

You might have seen on my Instagram that I recently got back from visiting my Dad in Majorca. It was so nice to have a week off work to just chill and relax! I haven’t had much time for my blog recently but having a week off has given me some brilliant inspiration and time to plan!

Even though Majorca is only a 3-hour flight away, my skin still felt hella awful once I landed back in the UK. Planes seem to suck all of the moisture (and life) out of your skin and it makes me feel slightly like a prune. Not ideal after a week of sunning it up and trying to look after my skin!

Obviously, long haul flights can be even more drying and damaging to the skin, so I’d love to offer my tips and product choices for a post-flight skincare routine! I did this exact routine when I got home a couple of weeks ago and it immediately restored life back into my face and body! Hurrah.

It’s so important to give your skin some moisture, and I don’t mean in the form of just having a bath or shower. You want something to nourish the skin and lock in the moisture to reverse and of the drying effects that your flight has had!

Post-Flight Skincare for the Face

I always recommend cleansing your face when you return home or get to the hotel room after a flight. Think of all of the yucky germs and pollutions your skin has been exposed to on the plane! I know, gross.

My face often feels so dry after the plane that it seems to accentuate any bumps and blemishes that I have. A gentle face exfoliant is brilliant at smoothing these imperfections and helps to get rid of any unwanted mucky bits from your travels, but without being too harsh on the skin! I swear by my Dermalogica Daily Microexfoliant, which I was gifted last year.

Next up, it’s nice to give your face a little extra love than a regular moisturise. Skin oils are amazing at nourishing and moisturising your skin, especially if yours is feeling particularly dry. I’m currently trying out a Neom face oil that is launching in September (lucky me! I can’t wait to tell you guys all about it), and even though its primarily for the morning, it has all of the amazing natural ingredients that I needed at 5pm. There are so many face oils out there so if you have one already, apply a few drops to your hand and gently rub it into your face for a minute!

After letting the oil soak in, apply a face moisturiser on top. Don’t forget eye cream too, because the skin around your eyes is probably feeling a little on the dry side too!

Post-Flight Skincare for the Body:

If you feel immediately paler after landing back from your holiday, it’s probably because you are… but not so much because your hard-earned tan has actually faded that fast, but more because your skin will be dry.

Regularly moisturising your body is a good habit to get into in general, but it’s particularly amazing at helping you to retain your tan for as long as possible. Especially after a flight!

Just like with the face, body oils are fantastic at nourishing dry skin and restoring a sunkissed glow. There are so many high street and luxury body oils available. I was lucky enough to be gifted with This Works’ Dry Leg Oil recently, which can be used all over the body. I massaged (/slathered) it into the skin after my flight and I felt like a new woman. I’ve genuinely used it after every shower since and I’ve found it to be so much more effective than body lotions!

Don’t forget to look after your tootsies during your post-flight skincare routine! Your feet have likely endured sand, sea, pools, flip flops and other demanding environments during your holiday, so they might need a little TLC too. Treat yourself to a nice foot lotion or heel balm to restore their energy!

Looking after your skin after a flight is super duper important, so make sure you’re giving it the attention it deserves! Not only does it do wonders for your skin, but it makes you feel so pampered at the same time. Who doesn’t love a little pamper?
