Every day indulgence
Does it get much better than sitting with a glass of fizz whilst enjoying some tasty treats in a lovely environment?! I was able to just that on my recent gifted experience with Hotel Du Vin in Harrogate, where I was treated to their sensational Champagne Afternoon Tea! Seriously, it was sensational.
I’ve been visiting Harrogate’s Hotel Du Vin for years, from birthday dinners to general Saturdays to Christmas parties – it’s a great place to visit for an occasion or catch up over good food and drinks! They’ve always had a beautifully luxurious interior, but I couldn’t wait to see what they had done with the recent refurbishment of their bistro. I took my Mum with me and we headed over to check it all out last weekend! Here’s what we found…
They’ve done a wonderful job of freshening up their sophisticated French Bistro with gorgeous leather Chesterfield sofas and intimate seating arrangements. The beautiful style stays very true to Hotel Du Vin’s classic French origins and famous charm! It’s the perfect environment for a glass of chilled Champers, that’s for sure.
If you haven’t visited Hotel Du Vin bistro in Harrogate before, it’s a bright and open space with gorgeous big windows that are pretty perfect for people watching – for in between courses, of course.
The bistro looks wonderful and smart and I imagine it’s a fantastic hub of energy and atmosphere on an evening! As it’s located in the centre of Harrogate, on Prospect Place, it’s also in easy walking distance from the shops! We all know that shopping is hungry work… no wonder I’m always going out for food.
But now to the Afternoon Tea – I know that’s what you’re here for! I’ve got to start with W O W. Hotel Du Vin have put their own twist on a traditional British ritual and it’s a fantastic foodie experience.
Firstly, all of the delicious treats look amazing. Instead of the usual (and sometimes beige) arrangement of sandwiches and scones that you traditionally find, you’re presented with rolls, quiches, savoury croissants, sponges and so much more. If you saw my Instagram stories, you will have seen the video showcasing the full extent of their magnificent offerings!
If I were to talk through each individual item, we would be here for a while and I would get ridiculously hungry. But the standout treat was most certainly the Pistachio Pin Wheel (scroll up to the image at the top to drool over it). The sponge was extremely light with a delicate flavour, balanced with a gorgeous buttery cream mixture and sweet jam (said in a Great British Bake Off voice). Apparently it’s a favourite with all of the staff too, and I’m not surprised!
They’ve also done a play on the Rhubarb and Custard sweetie combination with a gorgeous sweet-but-tarte mousse that is super refreshing! They’ve been creative with all of the items and there wasn’t a single thing that I didn’t enjoy. Their savoury treats were also delicious and full of flavour, and the bubbly was the perfect drink to wash it all down with – naturally!
The presentation is so beautiful and is a reflection of its lovely French surroundings with the the pretty and dainty design of the trays. The most enjoyable part of the whole experience, though, is the variety of flavours and textures incorporated into their Afternoon Tea, yet they haven’t lost the traditional features with their egg mayo sandwich fillings, stunning macaroons and fresh scones.
I’ve been singing the praises of Hotel Du Vin since last Saturday and I wouldn’t hesitate to return to try their Afternoon Tea, particularly to celebrate a birthday or occasion!
