Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear In Between the Food, happy birthday to you…
(Imagine that being sung in a very, very bad singing voice).
I can’t flippin’ believe that I’m writing this 12 months on from my first ever blog post. It has flown by but still feels like forever ago (makes sense). It took me so long to pluck up the courage to start the blog and I definitely haven’t looked back since doing so. In aid of In Between the Food’s first birthday – I bloody love a birthday, chin chin – I wanted to cover some of the things I have learned and the highlights of the blog so far, but also some outtakes to show what blogging really looks like… it ain’t always pretty.
Lesson: Say Yes to Everything You Would Regret Not Doing
A lack of confidence was the main reason why I put off starting a blog for so long. There are so many bloggers out there already and I didn’t want to look like a wannabe or have people judge me. Also, what if it was just really, really bad.
But, y’know what? Life is damn short. I’ve come to realise that you can’t focus on the negatives and the might be’s, you should do anything you’ll regret not doing and if anyone judges you, they aren’t the type of people worth having in your life anyway! That’s right, you go get that second McDonalds of the day hun, you do you!
Directing it back to the blog – she says pushing the thought of McDonalds to the back of the mind… for now – I haven’t even met a single negative Nancy and have been overwhelmed by everyone’s wonderful comments and feedback over the past year. I hate to think of how many things people miss out on or don’t do out of fear of trying. At the end of the day, as long as you enjoy doing something and are doing it for the right reasons, it’s so worth doing (the cheese ends here I promise).
Highlight: “Wait, brands actually want me to blog about them?!”
Some of my biggest In Between the Food highlights so far have been the times I have been approached by brands who want to collaborate with me and feature on this blog. The blog I created. My blog. Say whaaaat.
Actual brands wanting to work with me is a feeling I will never get over! These, of course, have notably been HG3 Fitness and Foundry Project who are already featuring on the blog, but I actually have a few more very exciting projects in the pipeline! I love that my platform has become its own little hub of information about places and products, and I know that it has a heck of a lot of growing still to do. Exciting stuff!
In fact, followers of my Instagram will be aware of a very exciting shoot that I recently did with Bettys (the one and only) for their new afternoon tea – of course, a blog will soon go up to talk all about this. I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to do the shoot without the blog and Instagram I have built so I’m really quite proud.
Through the millions of photos I have already taken for the blog, and also my Instagram which I have been growing alongside it, there are many, many outtakes.
In between the instagrammable moments and bloggable moments (which are definitely words) are the not so instagrammable or bloggable moments. The many outtakes featuring bad angles, lighting, and faces are both tragic and hilarious.
A year ago, not achieving the right shot instantaneously used to stress me out to the max and this in turn made me really awkward in photos. I’ve since learned to accept that you’re not going to achieve ‘the one’ instantly – although when you do, its bloody brilliant. Anyway, look below for a few poorly-timed photos, awkward arm movements, and a lovely trouser pull-up – nice.
Here’s to many more years of In Between the Food, and remember to catch me over on Instagram.
