Best Beauty Bits

I don’t know about you, but most of my beauty purchases come after a recommendation I have been given, a blog I have read, a Youtube video I have studied, or a very persuasive beauty-counter sales assistant. It’s so hard to find new products that you know are going to work for you, and so we either thrive off recommendations from others or we have to take a stab in the dark and risk it.

Reviews are everything, especially if you’re going to invest some money into a new brand or product. Luckily, I have built up a make-up collection that I love and live by, and I thought it might be useful to talk you through what I think makes these products so great! Here are my best beauty bits.

Base and Face

Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Foundation Review

Think of your face as a canvas – to achieve the best result you need to start with a good base. For most people, this begins with foundation (after moisturising, etc). I always find myself switching between brands to try and find the perfect all-year-round foundation, but I have concluded that this is an impossible task. The colour, hydration, and complexion of our skin literally changes between seasons, so it’s extremely hard to find a foundation that is perfect for the whole year! At least, I’ve yet to find this holy grail product.

Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Foundation

However, for the last few months I have been using the new Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Foundation (the longer the name, the better the foundation?), and I’ve been really impressed with it. It’s not thick or heavy, in fact, it actually barely feels like you’re wearing foundation at all, yet it still gives you a good medium coverage – the type of coverage that is enough to cover blemishes but not too much that your face doesn’t even look like skin anymore. Because the formula is so light, it’s really easy to blend and creates a great base that sits well on the skin! The finish is semi-matte, which is perfect for this time of year as it doesn’t leave you looking too dry or too dewy.

Maybelline Eraser Eye Concealer

Concealer – oh lord, how I would cope without concealer I just do not know. It hides a multitude of hangover/lack of sleep/winter skin sins. I’ve tried many a concealer, high-end and high street, and I have always come back to the Maybelline Eraser Eye concealer. The colour options are perfect for me – not too pink in tone and the sponge application is brilliant. The coverage is really great but also buildable and guys, it’s literally under £10. You’re welcome.

Powder and Blush

Top Makeup Products for Face

Laura Mercier Translucent Powder

Another of my holy grail products is the Laura Mercier Translucent Powder. This is loved by many so chances are that you have heard of it, if not tried it, yourself! The powder is extremely fine and so only a little is needed, but it’s completely translucent on the face and is really great for setting all of your base in place. But most of all, it stops you from being a shiny mess before the day has even started. Kerching.

Real Techniques PowderBleu Powder Brush

This is a brush to boast about. Holy moly, have you ever seen a brush looking so fierce?! The Real Technique’s PowderBleu collection is a brilliant selection of powder brushes. Because they’ve been designed specially for powders, they allow you to apply your powder without disturbing any of the makeup you have applied underneath. I have the soft powder brush, which I think is the largest in the range, and the shape and size of it makes it so easy to apply powder to the whole face. Anything that requires less effort in the morning is a bonus from me! This range is slightly more expensive than the other Real Techniques’ ranges but they feel a lot more luxe.

Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic Blush

A couple of years ago I had a huge Charlotte Tilbury obsession, literally everything I used was Charlotte Tilbury. The sassy packaging might have had something to do with it, but beneath the shiny gold exteriors are some pretty damn good products. One of the products that has stayed in my make-up bag over the last few years is the Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic blusher in Ecstasy.

This is more than your average dab-and-apply blusher. The whole concept of Cheek to Chic is to swish your brush around the outer, lighter colour, and sweep it across your cheek. And to then pop the middle shade onto the apples of your cheek. This provides the perfect colour combination that looks nice and natural. You don’t need much of the product at all – mine barely looks used despite me using it everyday for the past few years!

Eyes and Brows

Best Makeup Products for Eyes

Benefit They’re Real! Mascara

In my opinion, Benefit’s They’re Real! mascara is the absolute queen of all mascaras. Finding a good mascara is a challenge, and I’ve tried a heck of a lot! However, I always find myself coming back to this beauty. The mascara wand is perfect – it’s big without being so bulky that you nearly take your eye out, but also great at allowing you to apply the product without it becoming clumpy. There is nothing I hate more than clumpy mascara (who doesn’t?). But above all, it really helps to build your lashes to a wonderful long length. So if you have yet to try it, I really don’t think you would be disappointed.

Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner

I’m definitely an eyeliner gal. Some people don’t incorporate it into their everyday makeup look, but I genuinely look ill without it (maybe this is because I only don’t wear it when I’m ill…). As an avid eyeliner-wearer, one of life’s biggest struggles is finding an eyeliner that isn’t halfway down your face at the end of the day. Luckily I have found this product and I’m probably never going back.

The Bobbi Brown long-wear gel eyeliner is exactly what it says on the tin – long-wear. Applied with the Bobbi Brown Ultra Precise Eyeliner Brush – or similar – it’s so great to be able to apply eyeliner and not have to use a harsh and sharp pencil underneath your ridiculously tired eyes at 6.30 in the morning. I have literally used this Bobbi Brown product for about 5 years, no joke. I think it’s that good (apparently it’s award-winning, and I understand why).

I started off with the chocolate shimmer shade which is beautiful – it’s dark but slightly softer than black, with a lovely shimmer that you can see in certain lighting. Currently, though, I’m using a slightly darker shade that is a little more defining.

Glossier Boy Brow

If you have Instagram then you must have seen this product, it’s transforming eyebrows all over the world – mine included (thanks to my wonderful friend for buying me this for my birthday). This Glossier product thickens, fills, and shapes brows. You can use it on its own and build it up but I apply it over a powder I fill my brows in with. As I have relatively thick brows that like to have a life of their own, this really helps to keep them in place. Rain, wind, or shine, my brows remain intact by the end of the day.

I have the brown shade and it’s perfect for me – any darker and m’brows would just be a little too bold. No one wants that. The product itself is quite similar to Benefit’s Gimme Brow but I would say it’s a little thicker and therefore keeps the brows in place slightly better.

Lipstick Recommendations

Charlotte Tilbury Lipsticks

Back to the subject of Charlotte Tilbury – her lipsticks are life. I own plenty of lipstick brands but I’m going to make a bold statement and say that Charlotte Tilbury rules all. It all started with Very Victoria, a matte lipstick with an underlying taupe shade. It’s my go-to on pretty much all occasions as it adds some depth and colour to your lips without them being too bold. Highly recommend. Penelope Pink is another great nude shade with a matte pink (obviously) tone. Nude Kate is a glossier nude that is less pink and great if you’re just wanting a little something something. And then there’s Glastonberry, the most beautiful berry colour for a bold matte lip.

Aside from the extremely sassy and beautiful gold exterior, the lipsticks themselves are pretty sensational. They apply extremely well and have a beautiful texture that is comfortable and long-lasting. The lip glosses are also brilliant for adding some shine and glamour!

Charlotte Tilbury lip liners are also my absolute favourite. I hate lip liners that glide off as quickly as they glide on – I want something that is going to last for a long time and not have to be re-applied. Charlotte Tilbury answered my lip-prayers with her liners. The texture of the liners are almost waxy, but in a good way. They stay on and the colours are beautiful; Iconic Nude goes with all lipsticks and Pillowtalk is great for pinker shades.

NYX Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks

Okay, so drifting away from Charlotte Tilbury is a liquid lipstick that is new to my collection, but certainly one to talk about. NYX have a lip lingerie range of lipsticks that I am beyond impressed with. I’ve bought liquid lipsticks in the past but just haven’t been able to get on board with them – they felt tacky and looked average. But thanks to a few reviews and an extremely hard-to-resist £7 price tag, I thought these products were worth a try. Well, it’s safe to say it was worth a try. I bought the Cashmere Silk shade and it glides on beautifully whilst drying straight away – no sticky situation and this Nude shade is ideal for all occasions. It’s safe to say I’m pretty smitten!

And there you have it, the best beauty bits I love and would highly recommend! I hope you have found some of this information useful, whether you’ve been tempted with one of these products in the past or are looking for something new!
